THE RULES

NEW RULE FOR AWAY CELLS

Due to new FAA Rules we are forced to relocate our BALLS Site.  We are also defined with a 2,500 foot radius of operations from the LCO. This means all BALLS Pads must be within the 2,500 foot radius, that's a half mile if you're wondering.  Setting up beyond 2,500 feet is an Away Cell and requires their own Class 3 Waiver to operate. For more information on Away Cells click AWAY CELLS in the menu above.

As of right now we will be operating at the same location as 2016

Special Ground Support equipment will be the responsibility of the individual or Team. There will be a range set up with a limited number of launch pads. A central LCO will control ALL launches within the range, about 2,500 feet, AND any and all launches conducted at Away Cells on the playa for ALL days of the BALLS event. If you require anything special, bring it yourself. If using an "Away Cell", or a launch pad out of the range controlled by the LCO, you must provide communications with the LCO to launch.

AND MORE IMPORTANT STUFF!

BIG STUFF
BALLS 26
is run under the Tripoli Research Rules, available HERE in PDF file requiring Adobe Reader to view and print. Anyone planning on flying an O motor, or above, must contact the Sponsors prior to arrival at the launch. Anyone planning a Q motor, or above, or Hybrids (other than Nitrous Oxide), MUST request written approval from the Tripoli Board of Directors. This does NOT mean the day before the launch! It is recommended everyone have their "requests" approved by August 31st. Q and above flights should forward a copy of their BoD approval to the Launch Director, Tom Blazanin, at the soonest date. Registration is REQUIRED by EVERYONE planning to attend.

Due to increased scrutiny and renewed interaction between FAA and sister Federal agencies. Rockets, regardless of impulse, designed to fly above 50,000 feet AGL will be submitted to the Class 3 committee for review and analysis 45 days prior to the event. This is internal and not a request by any Federal Agency but a renewed commitment to Safety by Tripoli. This does not constitute a Class 3 certification but is an excellent primer for obtaining one.

PLEASE NOTE: Two Stage Rockets Planning 50K+ Flights Will Launch From Ground Zero.

THIS IS IMPORTANT STUFF TOO!

Because of the nature of activities children are discouraged. It is near impossible to concentrate on a large potentially dangerous project and watch your child at the same time. Don't say you can do it. History has already proved you wrong. Add to this kids always seem to end up where they shouldn't be or riding bikes and ATVs through prep areas.

TAKE YOUR TRASH & CRASHES WITH YOU WHEN YOU LEAVE!

THIS IS NOT A FAMILY EVENT, CHILDREN ARE DISCOURAGED
